Meet Jen Thomson, your Oxford County Real Estate Agent and Broker

My dad always told us how important it was to own your own home. “If you don’t,” he’d say, “you’re paying somebody else’s mortage.” He believed this so strongly that he set up trusts for me and my brother. We got the money if we completed a post-secondary education, and it had to go toward buying a house.

When you’re young, that could seem frustrating. That money would have really helped liven up a few weekends during university. But it instilled a great sense of responsibility in me, and after receiving my business degree from York University, I bought my first home on my own in my mid 20s. I still appreciate my dad’s foresight in helping me take that important step.

I launched a small trucking corporation in the Newmarket area, serving Canada Post and other organizations for many years. But real estate continued to capture my imagination, and I finally realized my dream of becoming a real estate agent soon before moving to Woodstock in 2013.

I worked with RE/MAX in Woodstock before becoming a broker and making the move to the locally owned, 100% Canadian office of Sutton Group Right Way Real Estate Inc in Woodstock. (For more than 25 years, Right Way was the largest independently owned Woodstock real estate office in Oxford County.)

I’m passionate about helping people buy and sell their homes, and I keep learning. I’ve earned my Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist™ designation and am proud to be a Seniors Real Estate Specialist®.

My two youngest children have grown up here, and through them I’ve found lots of ways to get involved with the local community. I volunteer with the Harrisfield home & School Association, helping out on field trips and food days, and I’ve been the Parents’ Council Treasurer. I’ve also been a “dance mom” and continue to help out backstage at recitals.

I’ve also worked as a volunteer member of the South-West Oxford Hall Board and the Mount Elgin Parks and Rec Committee.
